London Welcomes the 2016 Chelsea Flower Show

It’s that time of year again. London has opened its doors and welcomed the world to its landmark Chelsea Flower Show, which is arguably the most famous gardening event on earth.

Established on the eve of World War One in 1913, the Chelsea Flower Show is a famous gardening event hosted by the Royal Horticultural Society. Traditionally taking place in the London borough of Chelsea for five days every May, the event attracts visitors from every continent on earth.

The Chelsea Flower Show features a range of avante guarde show gardens. These spaces allow leading garden designers to introduce the world to the latest trends in horticulture, typically featuring a floral Marquee in the centre which showcases stunning flowers and plant life.

The 2016 Chelsea Flower Show

According to MSNBC, the 2016 Chelsea Flower Show is taking place from 24th May to 28th May on the grounds of the Royal Chelsea Hospital. The event has already been a huge success, attracting famous names like actresses Rosamund Pike and Demi Moore. Even the Queen herself put in an appearance!

This year’s Chelsea Flower Show features a range of colourful, fantastic attractions. Celebrating the 90th birthday of its patron, the Queen, the event includes photographic exhibits and a floral arch. It also features a range of exceptional show gardens such as author Anne-Marie Powell’s ‘Garden for Health, Happiness and Culture,’ which is designed to promote well-being through horticulture.

Other standouts include broadcaster Jekka McVicar’s ‘A Modern Apothecary’ garden, which showcases plants used for medical practises and TV gardener Diarmuid Gavin’s ‘The British Eccentrics Garden.’ Sponsored by Harrods, this space includes terraces, a topiary, conical tree bays and a wooden shed with gardening gadgetry and is already proving a massive hit with attendees!
