Tasting Notes
Jane Anson 95
An impressively consistent 3.67ha estate, this has depth, character and energy, the tannins are fairly controlling at this point, but there is vibrant black fruit underneath. Full of charm and interest, with a seductive floral edge unrolling as it opens in the glass. New owners Suravenir Assurance of Calon Ségur, but still Penelope Godefroy as technical director, working with director Vincent Millet. Jean-Claude Berrouet consultant.

The 2020 Vray Croix de Gay, which undergoes a small amount of ageing in amphorae, is deep in colour. It has a tightly wound bouquet with marine-influenced black fruit, quite high-toned with a splash of ink emerging with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with grippy tannins, a dense and sinewy Pomerol with a powdery textured finish where the oak just impedes across onto the fruit. Hopefully it will evolve more finesse during its élevage.
